Michael began playing trumpet in the 5th grade.  He quickly developed a love for it and joined his middle school jazz band his 6th grade year, and he hasn’t looked back since!  During his middle and high school years, Michael earned countless awards, honors, and accolades for his soloing as well as his lead trumpet playing.  Notably, Michael was selected to play trumpet in the Oregon All-State Jazz Band for an unprecedented 4 years in a row.

At Mt. Hood Community College, Michael continued his work in jazz bands under the direction of Susie Jones.  During his time at MHCC, Michael was fortunate to back up such artists as Jamey Aebersold and Kevin Mahogany, as well as many local and regional musicians.

After MHCC, Michael went to Portland State University where he studied horn under Larry Johnson.  While at PSU, Michael had the privilege of working with internationally known horn teachers and performers such as Hans Pizka and Bill VerMeulen.

Michael has played in just about every conceivable type of ensemble and comes with years of playing experience in professional and semi-professional settings.  From musicals to weddings to dance bands to brass ensembles, he’s done it all!  While in the Portland Metro area, he has earned a reputation for being easy to work with, capable, professional, and dependable.  Please contact Michael if you have any questions about hiring him to play your next event!
